Preparations: Pictures

Awa and Margaret standing on the steps of our house in Fajara. Awa entertained us with stories about the warmth and friendliness of people in Senegal. She also told us lurid stories about bandits and armed robbery.

Our ever cheerful friend and watchman Korante described his home village in Mali and encouraged us to make the trip.  He had travelled widely in West Africa and was a fund of useful tips and information.

 Having lived for over a year in Gambia we were well used to the heat and conditions. We had travelled widely in Gambia on local transport and knew how things worked.
