Kayes was a busy town bustling with friendly people who were happy to pass the time of day with travellers and give helpful and accurate advice. We spent a couple of days here strolling around and looking at the old French colonial buildings.

The River Senegal flows past Kayes then into Senegal meeting the Atlantic Ocean at St Louis in Senegal. Here the river is used for drinking and cooking water, transportation, washing and washing clothes and animals.
